Gold Ahgion

Prequel
6th Birthday

The little girl was excited. She was getting a pet. It was her 6th birthday and she always wanted a pet that she will love. She skipped while holding her father’s big hand. Her bright yellow wavy hair tied in two pony tails swished around as she moved. She looked at her father with her beautiful green eyes.
‘Dad, dad! Am I really having a pet!? Do I get to choose one?’ she asked excitedly.
‘Yes my dear Crystal,’ he smiled at her daughter and touched his straight red beard. ‘But it can’t be too big.’
‘Ok dad!’ she said and smiled widely to him.

She jumped in happiness and dropped her small tiara. Her tiara dropped onto the dirt and she quickly picked it up. Crystal wiped it clean and shiny with her ruffled emerald sleeves.
‘Come on Princess Crystal, we got to keep going,’ one of the guards in white pure armour told her.
She grabbed her father’s hand again and asked another question.
‘Dad, do you think your crown can fit on my head?’
His father laughed heartily, ‘My dear it might slip off your head. Maybe when you grow more it might fit on your head properly.’

Her father was the King of this kingdom. Kingdom of Centola. They were walking towards the animal shop with only two guards behind them. Crystal didn’t want to sit in the carriage to get there so they were walking there.
‘Dad does everyone in the village know my birthday is today?’ she asked again.
‘I bet they do!’ he answered enthusiastically. ‘They love you so much!’
‘Dad I think they love you too!’
The kingdom had no problems their King and Queen. Unlike other kingdoms they didn’t have any problems at all. Crystal’s mother and father were kind to them and would help them. They were a great role model to them.

Now they were walking onto the pebbled road with rows of houses. People saw them and their face brightened up.
‘Happy Birthday Crystal!’ one shouted joyfully.
Everyone around them shouted out birthday wishes to her and Crystal gave all of them air kisses. She thanked them all and they all moved out of the way for their rulers to walk freely.
‘Have a great day everyone!’ Crystal said and waved at everyone who they would wave back at her.
‘Yes everyone!’ his father yelled in a good jolly voice. ‘The sun is shining bright! So be bright as you can be!’
‘What my father said!’ Crystal shouted as she is raised off the ground and onto her father’s shoulder.
Everyone laughs as she gives more air kisses to them.

She was wearing her short emerald green dress with lots of ruffles and ribbons. She wore black flats and white stockings. Her father wore leather boots and white loose pants. He also wore a yellow tunic and a long red robe hanging off his back. Crystal lifted the crown off his head and observed it.
‘Dad what stones are these?’ she asked.
‘They are special stones, they represent the elements of this world,’ he answered.
She lightly places it back onto his red hair.
‘We’re here!’

Her father places her down and she stretches. She looks at the shop which looked small. It was completely made out of wood and there was a sign saying “Welcome to Best Creatures Shop!” The shop looks like it was ten metres squared, it looked it contains small creatures.
‘Dad this shop looks really small,’ she said.
‘Now dear, you know how I have told you. Don’t judge a book by its cover,’ he said.
‘Ok,’ she said.

A man opened the door and looked at them.
‘Ah! Your Majesty! You’re here! And your lovely girl,’ he smiled.
He had scruffy brown hair and a bandage on his right cheek and on his nose. He wore dark blue checked shirt and brown draggy pants that are tucked into his black leather boots. He had a brown apron tied on and he took a little red lolly out of the pocket of the apron.
‘Happy Birthday Princess,’ he bent down and showed her the lolly in his hand. He looked at her with his brown eyes, ‘Do you like strawberry flavoured lollies?’
She nodded shyly and she slowly picked the lolly of his hand. He smiled widely revealing his white teeth.
‘Now what do you say?’ her father said.
‘Thank you,’ she said to the shop owner.
‘You’re welcome!’

He led them in, one guard was left outside while the other followed them in. Crystal unwrapped the lolly and dropped it into her mouth.
‘Now does the princess have any rough ideas she wants?’ he said.
Crystal looked around. The inside was much bigger than the outside. It was twice the size but there wasn’t a single creature. It was an empty room with numerous of doors.
‘Dear? What kind of pet do you want?’ her father asked her.
She looked up gazing into her father’s green eyes.
‘Mmm I don’t know,’ she said. She showed her father the wrapper, ‘Where do I put this?’
‘Princess you may give that to me,’ the man said and she placed it into his hands. ‘What about we look around? Choose a door.’
She pointed at the one straight in front. The man opened that door and let them in first.
‘This room will have a collection of dogs and cats,’ he told them.

After they went through almost every room and passed every creature Crystal pointed at the next door.
‘This room will have a collection of hooved creatures,’ the man said.
‘Like horses?’ she said and he nods. ‘Dad can I have a horse?’
‘Sure dear,’ her father replied.
The man opened the door for them and let them walk in first. Inside were wooden stables with a corridor going down. There were many hooved creatures with different typed of features. Some had horns and some had wide beautiful wings. They all each had different coloured hair.

Crystal looked at both sides but couldn’t see which one she liked. She desperately looked around but none of them caught her heart.
‘What about that pink one over there?’ her father suggested pointing at a light pink unicorn that looked at them with magenta eyes.
She shook her head, ‘I think there is a better one than that one.’
‘Ok dear…’
She looks around more and she heard a loud squawk at the end of the corridor. Crystal was curious about the noise, she lets go of her father’s hand and runs to the end.

The creature squawks louder like it wants her run faster. The creature pokes its head out into her view. It looked at her curious as her and blinks. She saw its curled golden horns and beak with gradual black at the tip of it. The pupils of the eyes were big and the iris was bright red. There was a black line going down on both eyes. The creature squawked in fascination of the girl.

Crystal was in front of it and they made eye-contact.  It had caramel coloured hair and Crystal saw a glimpse of it gold wings. The creature licked her face and she laughed. She pets it on the head and kisses it on the beak.
‘Dad I want this horse!’
Her father burst into laughter, ‘Dear that isn’t a horse!’
‘That is a Gold Ahgion,’ the man said. ‘Very unique, not much is known about them.’
‘Can I have this Ahgion!? Pretty please!’ she begged. ‘I’ll promise I’ll take care and love it!’
‘Ok ok dear, but before we do why do you want him?’ her father questioned.
‘Actually Gold Ahgions don’t have any gender because of the rarity,’ the man said.

Crystal thought carefully about the question while the Ahgion looks at her yellow hair.
‘Because I can see that we will be the bestest best friends forever!’ she said. ‘I think he is cool!’
‘I guess we will be giving it “he”s and “him”s,’ the king whispered to the man.
‘Dad please! Pretty, pretty please!’
‘Now dear I hope you are not having him because he is gold,’ he said.
‘Definitely not dad!’ she said.
Crystal didn’t realise the Ahgion pecking her hair and staring at it.
‘Ok dear, I guess you’re positive,’ he said and he kneeled down and showed his pinky. ‘So pinky promise that you’ll love him?’
‘Yes!’ she linked her pinky around his in agreement. ‘I’ll even take care of him!’
‘Well there will be hard work in the future then,’ her father chuckled.

The Ahgion pecked at her again, wondering if her hair was food or not. It shrugged its head and tugged her hair.
‘Ow!’
The Ahgion tugged harder making her smash against the stable door, trying to get the taste of it.
‘Dad what is it doing!?’ she cried.
‘Oh dear,’ the man said, ‘I forgot to mention, it likes yellow food. I think it is mistaking the princess’s hair for spaghetti. It’s favourite food.’
‘What? You mean her hair looks like noodles!’ her father exclaimed in panic, not knowing how to get her out of the mess.
The guard didn’t know what to do either. He was going to slay the creature but he thought it over and thought that wouldn’t be a great idea because the rarity of it.
‘Yeah…I’m sorry your majesty let me fix this problem!’ he said.
‘Ahgion!’ Crystal cried tugging her hair back from it. ‘Please let me go! It hurts!’

The Ahgion lets go and her father catches her as she falls. It started spitting and trying to get the strands of her hair out of its tongue. The man went over and managed to calm it down. He also took the strands of the hair out of its mouth.
‘I’m sorry your Majesty,’ the man said. ‘Maybe there might be other ones?’
‘No I still want that one!’ Crystal said sobbing from the pain. Now one of her ponytails was wet.
‘Are you sure? Even what happened just then?’ her father said and she nodded.
‘I know that he knows my hair isn’t food,’ she said. ‘He only just met me.’
‘Now Crystal,’ her father whispered, ‘I’m not sure. I’m very concerned about your safety.’
‘Please dad, I remember mum saying that we forgive everyone no matter what they did. I bet he is trying to say sorry to us.’

The Ahgion squawked in an apologetic way. She smiled at it and reached to pat on its beak. It squawked happily at her and licked her hand. She laughed happily at him. Her father sighed, thinking about his daughter.
‘So you want him?’
‘Yes please dad,’ she said looking at him with those sparkly eyes.
He sighed again, ‘So how much does he cost?’

The man held the reins as he leads her new pet into the castle’s stables. Crystal was on the back of the Ahgion stroking the neck. Her father walked beside them with more guards behind marching behind them.
‘So dear, what are you going to name it?’ her father asked.
‘I don’t know,’ she replied fiddling with the creature’s pet. ‘I need to find a really good name and that he’ll like.’
‘Well there are plenty of good names out there!’
‘I know dad, but I want a really, really, really good name!’
‘Like a unique name?’
She nods while looking at the plaits she is making on the Ahgion’s mane that was around the neck that flows down covering the chest.

Her father lifted her off the Ahgion and placed her down. The man led the Ahgion into its stable and gave him a banana. The creature snatched it off his hands, threw it in the air and gulped the whole down. It shook itself and settles itself comfortably among the hay.
‘So do you know what name you’re going to name it yet?’ her father asked and she shook her head.
‘I’m going to find him his name,’ she told him. ‘I’m going to find one now.’
She runs off out of the stables. Her father was going to stop her to ask if she wants him to help but she was already gone.
‘Princess is a very bright girl,’ the man said.
‘She sure is Pan,’ the king said as he removed his crown to ruffle his hair a little.
‘If you want your Highness,’ Pan said, ‘I can take care of your Ahgion if you want. When I mean that I mean train it and all and…stuff.’
‘Train?’
‘Well, usually in other kingdoms people use Ahgions to go into the Ahgion tournament,’ he told him.
‘Please explain,’ the king said.

The little girl runs out of the stables to the open space where kids were kicking the ball. She scraped her shoe against the dirt ground making a crunch sound. She loves doing this but her mother said she can’t do that because she’ll damage the shoes she wears.
‘Hey Princess,’ someone called.
She looks and sees one of her friends, Ed. She smiles and waves at him. He smiles widely back to her and threw a soccer ball at her. She catches it and laughs.

Ed was the only person who had the widest smile and she would always see him with a happy expression. He had blonde spiked hair and aqua blue eyes. He wore a grey shirt and blue pants. He had his trainers on. He was covered in dirt and Crystal guessed that he was having a lot of fun playing soccer.

‘Happy Birthday!’ he cheered. ‘What did you get!?’
‘I got a pet!’ she replied excitedly.
‘A dog?’
‘Nope.’
‘Cat?’
‘Nah ah!’
‘Horse?’
‘Well…close. It was like a…Ah…Ahgon,’ she said unsure and drops the ball down and kicks it towards him.
Ed halts the ball with his foot, ‘What’s that?’
‘Well…it has wings-‘
‘Awesome! That means you can fly on it!’ Ed brightly said.
‘I don’t think so,’ she said. ‘I don’t think I’m old enough.’

‘That doesn’t matter! You will still fly on it right?’ Ed said.
‘Maybe,’ she said, ‘but right now I need to find a name for it! A unique name!’
He moves his head to the side not getting the word she said. ‘What does that word mean?’
‘It means a really, really, really, really,’ she inhaled more air, ‘really, really, really, really good name!’
‘Oh ok! So what does it look like?’
‘It’s gold,’ she told him.
‘What about…Goldy?’ he said and she shook her head.
‘I’m going to the library to find a name for it,’ she said.
‘Oh…ok.’
‘You can come with me.’
‘No it’s fine,’ he said wiping the dirt of his face, ‘I’m going to play more soccer.’
Crystal smiled warmly at him, ‘Ok then, have fun!’

She starts to run off past him. She couldn’t wait to find a perfect name for her new pet.
‘Hey!’ Ed called and she turned around. ‘I broke up with Liz!’
‘Huh? You broke up with her? Why?’
‘Because I had dirt all over me and she wanted someone who is clean all the time,’ he rolled his eyes.
‘But you can’t really be clean all the time,’ she said. ‘Well let me guess, are you going to find another girlfriend?’
‘Why not,’ he shrugged.

Crystal runs off before he could ask if she wanted her to be his girlfriend. He sighed and took a lollipop out of the pocket. He ripped the wrapper of and popped it into his mouth. Ed was a boy who would have many girlfriends even though he was just six. But though he never kissed any of them. He was just a kid so he didn’t get what girlfriends really are but it only seems like a game to him. He also eats a lot and would usually have lollies in his pocket.

Crystal was now in the library. She had collection of books around her all piled up. She wasn’t exactly focusing on getting a name for her pet but she was making a fort out of them.
‘Princess.’
‘Hm…yes Donna?’ Crystal said.
Donna with auburn long wavy hair looking at her with her blue eyes. She wore a long brown gown and she pushed her glass up.
‘Aren’t you trying to find a name for your new pet?’
‘Oh…oh yes.’
She gave her a feathered pen and a piece of paper, ‘You might need this if you want to gather some names.’
‘Oh thank you.’
‘You’re welcome Princess.’
Crystal got herself to focus and started to write a list of names.

It was night time and she walked towards the stables holding a lantern and the list of names. She was meant to go to dinner but she wanted to give the Ahgion its name ASAP. She got to its stable and opened it. She saw the Ahgion lift his head in surprise.
‘Ok I’m going to give you your name. I’ll tell them to you and pick one,’ she told it and she cautiously sat beside him.
The Ahgion nodded and she unveiled the roll of paper. She places the lantern down and begins with Ed’s suggestion. She thought maybe it would like that name.
‘Goldy?’
The Ahgion shook its head in disagreement.
‘Saffie? Liam? Bidra?’

Minutes past and she was starting to grow tired. She was crossing the names and was still telling the Ahgion suggestions. She finally got to one it agreed.
‘Zain?’
It squawked and nodded. Crystal could see that it agreed with this name.
‘You want this one? Do you want to hear any other ones?’ she asked and it shook its head.
It was satisfied with the name. Crystal gave a tick on the side.
‘Ok your name is Zain!’ she yawned and placed her head on its back. ‘Let me rest a while.’

‘Darling! Darling!’ the King shouted for his wife in their majestic room.
‘What is it?’ she said as she walks into his view.
She was combing her long yellow straight hair and looked at him with her beautiful golden eyes. She was in her white lace dressing gown.
‘I can’t find Crystal!’
‘Wasn’t she with us in dinner?’
‘No! She never was!’
‘Get everyone!  She could be in danger!’ her mother cried.

The King walked out of the room and went to the nearest guard to gather all the guards to find Crystal. The guard gave a nod and ran to do his order. The King ran to knock on everyone’s door to get them to find Crystal. Soon the whole castle woken up to search for the princess and Ed could hear shouting outside of the window.

He crawled off his bed to look outside. Everyone was running around the whole place. Ed looks at himself in his blue striped pyjamas and shrugged.
‘I’m going to see Crystal’s pet.’
